Laser Hair Removal is one of the safest and most effective hair removal methods available. This is even more true when the treatment is tailored to the individual who is receiving it; something that is only possible after a proper consultation.
Your consultation is one of the most important steps in your journey towards permanent hair removal, as it gives you the greatest chance of achieving your desired outcome.

Once your laser clinician knows how to adjust the treatment to suit your unique characteristics, the treatment will be able to be carried out to its full potential – at its safest and most effective.
At Lush Skin & Laser Clinic we offer FREE laser consultations, before booking in your sessions, it is important to manage your expectations of what the results of laser treatment might be for you.

Is Laser Hair removal permanent?
On average, Laser Hair Removal treatments offer a 80% to 90% permanent reduction of hair in the treated areas.
Note that this rate of effectiveness does not refer to results after a single session. This success rate can only be achieved after the required number of laser hair treatment sessions.
What type of laser machine do we use?
Laser Hair Removal procedures are performed by the world’s leading technology, Candela GentleLASE. CANDELA GentleLASE is a genuine, FDA approved, MEDICAL GRADE LASER, NOT IPL (Intense Pulse Light machine). Candlea GentleLASE produces a single ultra-focused, concentrated wavelength corresponding to hair follicles, not the surrounding skin. The laser damaged the hair follicle, inhibiting regrowth, producing permanent hair reduction.Candela Lasers feature their exclusive Cooling Device to maximise safety and comfort during treatment. The GentleLASE effectively treats a broader range of skin types than most other hour removal lasers. It is sufficiently delicate for fine sensitive skin and robust enough for a man’s beard, back or arms. The Candela GentleLASE, is used by qualified laser clinicians with years of experience under their belt!
Is laser hair removal for everyone?
The ideal candidate for Laser Hair Removal is a person with light skin and dark hair. People with light skin and dark hair will receive the best results (up to 80 – 90% reduction after having a course of 6 to 8 treatments). People with dark skin and dark hair can still be treated but may need more treatments. Clients with blonde, red and grey hairs cannot achieve significant hair removal reduction, as they do not have dark enough melanin in their hair.
At Lush Skin & Laser Clinic we do not treat clients who may be trying to conceive, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Laser hair removal has not been proven to be damaging to pregnant or lactating mothers or their children, however we recommend delaying treatment during these periods.
How many treatments will I require?
Depending on the skin type, thickness of the hair and colour, also which part of the body is being treated will depend on how many treatments you will need, we recommend between 6-12 treatments every 4-8 weeks, although some people require more than others. We invite you to visit us for a complimentary consultation and we can discuss exactly what we recommend for you and how long each treatment will take.
Every Laser Hair Removal treatment, like every person, is unique. Individual treatments will vary according to skin and hair colour, the lighter your skin and the darker your hair, the better the results achieved. Laser permanently removes hair in follicles during the Growth (Anagen) phase. At any time about 85% of our hair is in the growth stage and will be removed by Laser. During this stage the hair is most receptive to Laser as it is rich in protein, keratinized cells and melanin.
The amount of time the hair follicle stays in the Anagen phase is determined by your genetic make-up. A hair’s Anagen phase may last for several years, with Anagen hairs representing about 85% of our hair. At the conclusion of the Anagen phase the follicle enters the Catagen or transition phase and then the Telogen or resting phase when the hair begins to shed while the follicle is stimulated to begin a new cycle. Hair is not susceptible to Laser Hair Removal treatment during the Transition and resting phases.
The duration of these phases varies from person to person and is affected by our basic genetic (DNA) make-up, age, health and gender. Different hair colour and follicle shape also affects the timings of these phases. As hair follicles move back to the Growth phase they become susceptible to laser hair removal treatment and can then be removed permanently, this requires follow up visits. Maintenance visits are required to remove hair from new follicles that develop and start to grow hair. This is why we recommend 1 to 3 Maintenance visits each year.
Laser Hair Removal treatment is more effective with thick dark hair than it is with thin light hair. If you have natural dark hair and dark skin you can still be benefit from laser treatment for hair removal, however additional treatments are usually required to achieve satisfactory results.

How does the laser works to destroy hair follicles?
Lasers work by delivering an intense beam of light that is absorbed by the skin. This light is converted to heat and is absorbed by the cells being targeted safely destroying the hair follicle, while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected.
The GentleLASE system, a revolutionary long-pulse high energy Laser emits a beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicles where it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed into heat. This destroys the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. After a series of treatments, the follicles become sterile preventing the development of further hair growth in that follicle. Laser Hair Removal is a safe, effective and commonly used treatment, providing great results in the removal of unwanted hair in all areas of the body.

What is the difference between Laser and IPL Treatments?
Most people ask the question, what is the difference between IPL and Laser? IPL and Laser are very different treatments and you the consumer, needs to know exactly what you are paying for. It is important to ensure you know what machine is being used for your treatments and to research the pros and cons of these machines. You will find that many companies throughout Australia claim to use “IPL Laser Hair Removal”. This is not genuine Laser Hair Removal and should not be treated or charged as such.
WHAT IS IPL?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is available in many different versions including IPL, SPL, VPL, or CPL. The majority of people do not realise that there are significant differences between IPL and Laser and that there are inherent risks and side effects associated with IPL hair removal.
HOW DOES IPL WORK?
An Intense Pulsed Light machine uses a broad spectrum of light, sending out a variety of wavelengths of energy to destroy the hair follicle. This can result in the body receiving unneeded wavelengths of energy that can affect and damage multiple structures below the dermis. IPL cannot effectively isolate the specific wavelength that is only needed to destroy the hair and thus leaves a greater margin for error. IPL machines do not have the ability to use “selective photothermolysis”, which is the rapid heating of a select structure and not the surrounding areas. If not used by a highly skilled technician, IPL can cause burning and scarring of the skin. It is also unknown what the long term effects may result from IPL on the body due to the higher levels of exposure of radiation.
SO HOW DOES LASER WORK COMPARED TO IPL?
The laser used at LUSH Skin & Body Clinic It is an FDA approved Candela laser and a proven leader in the hair removal industry.
The laser operates by producing a single wavelength that is specifically relative to the hair follicle. By doing this, it can precisely and consistently attack the exact region that it is targeting, the hair follicle.
How does this laser get to the follicle to destroy it?
- The laser uses a beam of light which penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigment colour in the hair where it is converted to heat.
- This heat travels down the hair shaft to the hair root and destroys it so that further hair cannot grow.
- Because hair has different growth phases and the treatment only works in the active growth phase, several treatments are necessary to achieve a lasting result.
- The number of treatments required will depend upon the hair density, colour, skin type and treatment area, together with ethnic background and hormones.
- Typically, 6 to 8 treatments are required
As these are single frequency wavelength lasers, never at any stage does the laser penetrate the dermis or second layer of skin, making this completely safe and accurate. The body is also not exposed to any other wavelengths that are not needed for the hair removal process.
It is estimated that approximately 80-90% permanent hair reduction will be achieved from a course of 6-8 treatments.
