The Ultimate Skincare Routine and Treatments for Acne-Prone Skin in Shepparton

There’s a reason your LUSH therapist talks about winter like it’s prime time. It is.

The cooler months create a rare window for corrective laser treatments, the kind that target pigmentation, sun damage, uneven tone, and stubborn concerns that have been building over years of Australian summers. Winter is also the smartest time to start (or restart) a laser hair removal course, so you’re smooth and sorted well before the weather warms up.

It’s not a coincidence that your therapist plans your most results-driven treatments around this time of year. It’s a strategy.

Why does the season matter so much?

Laser treatments work by delivering targeted energy into the skin, whether that’s breaking down pigment, stimulating collagen, or blocking hair growth. After treatment, the skin needs time to heal, regenerate, and settle without interference. UV exposure is the single biggest disruptor of that process.

In summer, even with diligent SPF use, the UV index in regional Victoria is high enough to compromise results and increase the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (new pigment forming in response to the treatment itself). That’s the opposite of what we’re trying to achieve.

Winter brings lower UV levels, shorter daylight hours, and naturally more coverage from clothing. Your skin gets the calm, protected healing environment it needs to respond to treatment the way it’s supposed to. The results are cleaner, the recovery is smoother, and the risk of complications drops significantly.

Corrective laser for pigmentation and sun damage

If sunspots, melasma, freckles, or uneven tone have been on your radar, winter is when your therapist will want to move on them. These concerns respond best to treatments that require a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart, so starting now means you’ll see meaningful results by spring.

At LUSH, pigmentation isn’t treated with a one-size-fits-all approach. Your therapist will assess the type, depth, and cause of your pigment during a Diagnostic Skin Consultation and develop a plan that uses the right combination of technology for your skin.

Some pigment sits close to the surface, such as freckles and mild sun damage, and responds well to picosecond laser technology that shatters pigment with ultra-short pulses without disrupting the surrounding skin. Deeper or more complex concerns, such as sun damage layered with redness, broken capillaries, or widespread tone irregularity, may call for vascular and pigment correction lasers that address multiple concerns in a single session. When both tone and texture need attention, your therapist can combine pigment correction with laser resurfacing to rebuild collagen simultaneously.

Your therapist may also incorporate supportive treatments between laser sessions, such as Healite II LED Phototherapy to calm inflammation and accelerate healing, or HydraFacial to maintain hydration and clarity while your skin is in active repair mode.

Winter = Laser hair removal head start

If you’ve been thinking about laser hair removal, or you started a course and let it lapse, winter removes every excuse.

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle with a concentrated beam of light, converting it to heat that removes the follicle’s ability to regrow. Hair grows in cycles, so multiple sessions are needed to catch each follicle during its active growth phase. Most clients need between 6 and 12 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart.

Starting in winter means you can move through several sessions before summer, with each one building on the last. You’ll also find it easier to avoid sun exposure on treated areas, which is essential for both safety and results.

At LUSH, laser hair removal uses medical-grade laser technology (not IPL), which delivers a single, precise wavelength directly to the follicle. It’s faster, more effective, and more comfortable, with integrated cooling technology to keep your skin calm throughout each session. It suits all skin tones and treats everything from facial hair to full legs and Brazilian areas.

There’s no downtime, and most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap followed by cooling relief.

The only real commitment? Shaving (not waxing) the treatment area 24 hours before each appointment, and staying out of the sun for four weeks before and after each session. In winter, that second part takes care of itself.

The bigger picture

Whether your focus is correcting years of sun damage or finally committing to hair-free skin, winter gives your LUSH therapist the ideal conditions to deliver the strongest results with the lowest risk. These aren’t treatments that benefit from a “wait and see” approach. They work best when they’re planned, consistent, and timed with the season.

If you’ve been on the fence, this is your window. Book a Diagnostic Skin Consultation or a laser hair removal consultation, and let your therapist build a plan that makes the most of the months ahead.
