How to Get the Perfect Spray Tan at Lush Skin & Body Clinic.
At LUSH Skin & Body Clinic we want to ensure we deliver a flawless natural tan – every time!
If you’re new to spray tanning, then you might be a little unsure on what to do to maximise the results of your spray tan. We believe in educating clients on the correct preparation with tips on what they can do to improve the outcome of a spray tan. Let’s look at some steps you can take to ensure that you get a perfect LUSH Skin & Body Clinic Spray Tan every single time.
Step 1: Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
A lot of new clients fall into the trap of thinking that this step isn’t needed unless they need to remove old tan…this couldn’t be further from the truth! Your skin will naturally shed skin cells and by encouraging this process prior to tanning, you are ensuring that the product you choose is being applied to the freshest skin possible. This will not only allow your tan to last longer but will result in a much more even tan that will fade as naturally as possible. A question that we are asked regularly is whether an actual exfoliant is required or if exfoliating gloves or a loofah will suffice. This is up to you, but we would always recommend a professional exfoliating mitt (available in clinic for $19.95) for the best results. A professional exfoliating mitt will gently remove build-up head to toe while conditioning the skin to accelerate your tan development and give you better results. We strongly advise that you steer clear of any exfoliating scrubs and products that are abrasive. Sugar or salt based scrubs are also not recommended as they are not only harsh on the skin but also very drying on the skin which as may hinder your spray tan results.
Step 2: Complete all hair removal 24-48 hours before you Tan
Wax or Shave away those unwanted hairs 24-48 hours before your tanning appointment. By doing this the day before you’re giving your pores a chance to settle and close before applying your tan. You risk the chance of spotting if you do this step on the day of a tan, and who really wants a spotty tan? If you get your eyebrows waxed or threaded, it should be done a few days before you tan.
Step 3: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Hydrating the skin by moisturizing twice daily in the lead up to a spray tan is key to achieving a healthy, flawless and long-lasting tan. Before, during and after you tan it is important to keep your skin as hydrated as possible.
There is no point in tanning if your skin is dry and flaky. If your skin isn’t moisturized not only is it harder to develop a tan, it also won’t last. Areas that you should focus on for moisturizing are the elbows, wrists, hands, knees, and feet especially around the ankles
Step 4. Products to avoid on the day of your tan.
On the day of your spray tan have a shower avoiding soap or body wash as these products contain moisturiser’s which can leave a residue on the skin which will hinder the spray tan result. Do not apply anything to your skin like moisturizers, body butters, make up, perfume or deodorant. Deodorant generally has one of two consequences after a spray tan: blocking the solution from reaching the skin or turning the skin under the arms green. All of these products have a tendency to block spray tanning solution from reaching your skin and you can end up with a tan which is uneven and patchy.
5. Immediately after the Spray Tan.
Arrive at the clinic with dark, loose fitting clothing and a pair of thongs to change into immediately after your tan. We advise leaving the bra and undies off as they will just rub off the spray tan. Make sure you wear a long sleeve shirt, pants or skirt if it’s raining or if rain looks imminent. Our Skin & Tanning Specialists will advise you of how long you should wait before showering to allow your spray tan to fully develop.
